Organic Wild-Crafted Apricot Halves
General description
This variety of apricots is wild and comes from trees that are not maintained in the same way that trees in a field would be. This is why there is so much variety in the appearance of these apricots and why their taste resembles that of a fresh apricot, sweet & slightly acidic. They are unique and magical fruit that will definitely please your palate! Prana’s apricots are sun dried so they slowly lose the orange-yellow color traditionally associated with apricots. Instead they are a golden-brown hue, very much comparable to the colour of dates and raisins.
Origin
The apricot is native to a northern China and was domesticated 4,000 years ago by a people of this region. The apricot then arrived in Europe, where it was then able to spread all throughout the Mediterranean. This variety of apricot tree is not from a culture but instead, grows freely in nature. The apricots available in the Prana boutique come from the remote area of the Uzbekistan and have never been in contact with pesticides. The fruit is picked, only when it is ripe, by the hand.
Nutritional benefits
The apricot is an excellent source of vitamin C and pro-vitamin A (beta carotene). It is also a good source of potassium, iron and dietary fiber.
Uses
Dried apricots are deliciously sweet and tender and go very well with a range of nuts, including almonds and cashews. Their gelatinous texture allows them to be prepared very well in the kitchen.
