General Description
Goji berries resemble the appearance of dried raisins however, their colour is a deep red.
Origin
Goji berries grow on a small shrub native to the highlands of the Himalayas, in the province of Tibet.
Nutritional Benefits
For millennia, Goji berries have been eaten in Asia for their medicinal properties. Particularly rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements and proteins, these berries are considered a superfood.
The Goji berry contains vitamins B1, 2 and 6, zinc, iron, selenium and phosphorus. They also contain beta-sisosterols and anti-inflammatory properties.
These berries can strengthen the immune system and regulate the cholesterol and sugar levels in the blood while also enhancing calcium absorption and relieving the liver.
Goji berries are said to be very efficient in countering the effects of aging in the eyes.We do need to mention that goji berries have a hypo-tensive effect, meaning that they are not ideal if you have low blood pressure problems.
Uses
Goji berries go very well with nuts, seeds and many other dried fruits. They are very popular in salads, smoothies or in your hot/cold cereals each morning.
