Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds

Organic Shelled Hemp Seeds

General Description

Hemp seeds are small, yellow-green ovals.

Origin

Hemp is an ancient plant native to Central Asia. It was consumed by followers of Shinto in Japan and some others in Eastern European populations.

Nutritional Benefits

The hemp seed is exceptionally nutritious and beneficial for the human body. It is very rich in protein with 30 to 50% more protein than is found in fish or cheese.

It contains antioxidants including cysteine, carotene (vitamin A) and tocopherols (vitamin E) that work synergistically to restore and moisturize dry skin, and to maintain eye health and structure of cell membranes.

Its oil is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (EFAs) Omega 6 and Omega 3. The body does not manufacture these fats on its own which often means that our diet is deficient in Omega 3. Omega 3 & 6 work together and therefore, need each other to be activated. Hemp contains the ideal ratio of 3:1 which allows the body to properly use them. EFAs help to prevent or reduce inflammatory problems, arthritis, asthma, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, hormonal disorders like the ones related to menopause. It has also been associated with the prevention of autoimmune diseases, obesity and cancer.

This seed also contains a good amount of iron and calcium, among other minerals.

Uses

Hemp seeds can be sprinkled on salads, soups, cereals, granola, yogurt, sauces, pesto…just use your imagination. It is better to eat it raw or to not cook it at more than 180C (350F)
