General Description

Agave syrup is an amber colored sweetener with a light vanilla taste. Agave syrup is softer and less viscous than honey and therefore can be paired with any recipe.

Organic Blue Agave syrup is a natural sweetener extracted from the core of the Blue Agave plant it is then heated at a temperature no more than 48ºC to preserve all the vitamins and minerals. Our agave is then put through a series of tests in order to meet organic and raw food standards.

Origin

The name “agave” comes from the Greek word for “Noble”. Organic agave syrup come from Mexico and is made from the sap from hearts (piñas) of the agave or maguey plant. It is this same syrup that is used in the production of tequila.

Nutritional Benefits

Agave syrup has a lower glycemic index than most sweeteners on the market. (100g of sugar = 400 calories, 100g agave syrup = 352 calories). It also contains minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Agave contains saponins and fructans which are found on quinoa and many plant roots, including ginseng, have anti-inflammatory and immune system-boosting properties, including antimicrobial capability. Raw agave nectar is still filled with living enzymes.

Uses

Use agave syrup as a sweetener in your cake recipes, teas, coffees and cold beverages such as iced tea. Agave nectar is easy to pour and due to its thin consistency, it dissolves and blends well with other ingredients.

Agave nectar is a delicious natural sweetener that can be used moderately by dieters, diabetics, and health conscious cooks to replace high-glycemic and refined sugars.

SUBSTITUTE

Honey - 1 cup of honey = 1 cup of agave nectar

Maple syrup - 1 cup of maple syrup = 1 cup of agave nectar

Brown rice syrup - 1 cup brown rice syrup = 1/2 to 1/3 cup agave nectar and increase other liquids in the recipe by up to1/2 cup

Granulated/white sugar - 1 cup of white sugar = 2/3 cup agave nectar and reduce other liquids in the recipe by 1/4 to 1/3 cup

Reduce the cooking temperature by 25 ºC and prolong cooking time for your recipes.

Conservation:

While we recommend storing Organic Blue Agave syrup with the lid on and in a dark cool environment, refrigeration is optional. The recommended shelf life is 2-years maximum after opening.
