Agave syrup is derived from the blue agave cactus that is native to Mexico. It is this same syrup that is used in the manufacturation of tequila.

Agave syrup has a lower glycemic index than most sweeteners on the market. (100g of sugar = 400 calories, 100g agave syrup = 352 calories). It also contains minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
Uses
Agave syrup is meant to be used instead of your usual sweetener. In regards to its ratio of sweetness, 150 grams of agave syrup equal 200 grams of sugar.
