General Description

Macadamia nuts are little round nuts with a diameter of about 2 cm. A fresh Macadamia nut is always a creamy white colour.

Origin

The macadamia nut is native to Australia but was discovered by Scottish scientist, John Macadam, who gave it his name. Cultivation of macadamia nuts is now widespread in areas such as Kenya, which is where PRANA’s macadamia nuts come from.

■ Out of all the nuts, macadamias have the largest quantity of beneficial mono-saturated fatty acids. They contain 9% protein, 9% carbohydrates, 2% fibre, and many vitamins and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, iron, selenium, thiamin and niacin.

■ Macadamia are free in gluten and, therefore are a popular ingredient in the preparation of gluten free food formulas. These formula preparations are in fact healthy alternatives in people with wheat food allergy and celiac disease.

■ According to recent studies, macadamia nuts have many anti-cholesterol virtues and can help reduce the effects of bad cholesterol.

■ This nut contains 180% of your daily requirement of manganese, 84% of copper and 100% of your daily intake in thiamin.

Thanks to their high content in Thiamin (vitamin B1), macadamia nuts can play a key role in protecting neurological health. Studies have shown that women have claimed an increase in mental acuity after consumption of this nut!
