Originally from North and South America, the pumpkin was domesticated in Mexico about 9000 years ago and was then used for their medicinal virtues.

The Menominee and Algonquins have been using pumpkin seeds as a diuretic. They would crush the seeds and mixed them with water, milk or honey to make a dewormer. The Cherokee also used it to treat enuresis (bedwetting) in children.
■ They contain a high amount of vitamine E a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant. Vitamine E maintain the integrity of mucus membranes and skin by protecting from harmful oxygen free radicals and regulating the bodies organisms.

The European Commission and the World Health Organization (WHO) recognize the medicinal capacities of pumpkin seeds to relieve the symptoms of irritable bladder and disorders associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy.
Uses
