General Description
Our sundried tomatoes are sliced tomatoes that have been set out to dry and have then taken a dark red colour.
Origin
The tomato is native to the Andes in South America where one can still find wild plants today. The tomato was introduced to Latin America and Mexico over 2000 years ago by the natural elements and the migration of populations and from that point forward, it was widely consumed in Mexico and in Spain.
Nutritional Benefits
Tomatoes have a highly concentrated level of lycopene and other minerals such as potassium, manganese and copper. PRANA’s dried tomatoes help protect against cardio-vascular disease like blood clots that can clog arteries. Several studies have also shown the protective effects of tomatoes against prostate cancer.
Uses
PRANA’s sundried tomatoes are not preserved in oil which allows us to conserve their texture and taste. Try adding a sundried tomato pesto to your lunchtime sandwich, or to your bruschetta recipe. You can also make small savory muffins with garlic, herbs and dried tomatoes as an appetizer to impress your guests. Sundried tomatoes are a delicious addition to vinaigrette softened in olive oil which is then placed in a blender with balsamic vinegar and herbs.

The tomato was introduced in Spain in the 16th century but it took another two centuries before the tomato was given a spot in cookbooks around the world! It was the tomato’s similarity with another poisonous plant that did not inspire much confidence until the poisonous myth was debunked in the 18th century.
